Women can become game changers

We wind down the month-long celebration of women, which according to Jaelle, is a time to celebrate and recognize the amazing things women all over the world are doing.

Purposefully building a legacy with a focus of positively impacting women in tech, to be of service and demonstrate to them that they can become game-changers in fields where women have been marginalized, is the life that Jaelle Amongi is leading.

She is the Enrolment and Admissions Associate at Outbox, who believes that mentorship; nothing compares to having someone to be accountable to; to help you define and guide your learning and career path, more so in a field so dominated by men is one way of encouraging more women to join tech.

A lover of travel and good music, Jaelle, has mastered the art of resilience. She has been implored to get up, dust off whatever has been caused by life’s hurdles, that would push her into wanting to give up.  Resilience has proved to her that better things lie ahead.

Do you want to know where true victory lies? It is in being aware of one’s weaknesses. For this, Jaelle recommends ‘girl boss,’ an unconventional success story.

We wind down the month-long celebration of women, which according to Jaelle, is a time to celebrate and recognize the amazing things women all over the world are doing.

In recognition of men who are doing all it takes in regards to women and having safe spaces, she recognises Joseph Nyende.

“I recently attended the AYDIA event on gender equality and I was amazed at how he is trying to get men to join the Feminist movement,” says the lover of good music.

Nyende works with the Foundation For Male Engagement Uganda (FOME).

FOME chooses to challenge patriarchal thinking that challenges the progress of women in terms of leadership and empowerment among others.

Imploring women to choose to challenge whatever they think is bad, Nyende acknowledged that, “Most of the violence we see in Uganda is perpetrated by men and boys. These are the same people engaging in conversations to protect women,” he said.

Nyende mentioned that FOME has talked to men to be different. “The men who have had an opportunity to be talked to in terms of supporting their spouses and women elsewhere behave better,” he ascertained.

As the foundation for men's engagement, sensitization is being carried out for men to understand that they should work towards advancing women economically and also in terms of leadership.
