Winners aim to increase incomes for smallholder farmers through innovative financial services

The program supports entrepreneurs in making financial services more affordable and accessible for smallholder farmers and other underbanked individuals in East Africa. PIVOT East, a startups competition geared towards nurturing the growing ICT talent in East Africa, has unveiled semifinalist for this year’s competition.
Since the beginning of 2015, the Collaboration on International ICT Policy for East and Southern Africa (CIPESA, www.cipesa.org) has been working in partnership with local tech communities in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi and Ethiopia to generate an empirical understanding in an [East] African context, of online safety and security technologies for ICT/internet users in the region.

As a student of Business Computing at Makerere University Business school, The women Passion program was the kind of program she needed to figure out where she wanted to concentrate in her career. Outbox initiated the Women Passion program in May 2014 -- a program designed to equip women and girls with skills in web programming, lean startup methodologies, leadership and human centered design.

Ensibuuko, a startup that was revealed by the ICT4Ag initiative in 2013 and incubated at Outbox has qualified for the Village Capital fintech for Agriculture East Africa 2015 accelerator program. Two of the top ventures in the program will receive USD 100,000 worth of funding. Other Ugandan startups selected include Remit Uganda and Yield Uganda
