Manifesto Tracker

Focused on enabling citizens track the performance of leaders against the promises made in the manifestos.

Although Government makes promises with the intention of fulfilling them to uplift the lives of Ugandans, the duties and conflicting priorities of Government as a whole make it challenging for it to keep track on the state of the fulfilment of these promises.

This not only happens in Uganda, but in various part of the world. It is against this backdrop that we seek to develop a tool and thereafter an open framework that can be leveraged by various civil society organisations to build their own manifesto tracker platforms.

Why this Initiative

  • Accountability: maintain accountability to the fulfilment of these promises as they are either forgotten or not prioritised;
  • Visibility: celebrate the success of a partial or completed implementation of these promises due to a failure to match promises as benefits to projects being run by Government;
  • Data: liberalise data that can be used to drive better service delivery using technology tools

What we do

  • We work with journalists as fellows to research promises in the manifesto tracker and publish fact-checks on them
  • We are building a digital platform that will be used by various civil society organisations, citizens and Government to track progress
  • We are sharing our learnings through open data days on how we undertake our work leveraging data journalism skills
