About the Event

What is the Building M: After-hours bootcamp about?

The Web Applications development Bootcamp is a twelve (12) week training program that seeks to equip individuals with limited or no experience in software development with skills on how to build web applications. We believe in building inclusive programs. We believe in communities.

The bootcamp seeks to kickstart your journey at becoming a talented software developer.

The after-hours training is one that will take place 3 days a week from 6.00pm to 8.30pm.

The program is implemented by Outbox, an organisation based in Uganda that supports early stage entrepreneurs and also focuses on upskilling individuals interested in technology.

Am I eligible?

The program is targeted towards any individual with limited or no experience in software development. You are eligible if you are passionate about software development, and are willing to put in the long hours to become a great software developer. We prefer working with individuals that have an understanding of basic computer skills, as we shall not teach this in the program. You must also have your own laptop to use within the program.

What is the application process?

You should apply online here. Once your application is received, it will be reviewed by our team. You will be invited for a written aptitude interview. Should you be successful at the aptitude test, you will be given an offer to join the bootcamp program.

What is the bootcamp process like?

The bootcamp process begins with one week of self-study pre-work. You are still expected to check-in every  three days at our training facilities from 6.00pm to 8pm for an instructor debrief. The one week of self study shall involve studying the material and assessment by the instructors. After the assessment, a review is done by the instructors to determine who can continue in the program. Should you not be able allowed to continue, your fees are refunded according to our refund policy. Once you continue to the next phase, you participate in daily instructor led trainings.

What will I learn during the bootcamp?

The bootcamp will focus on equipping you with the following:

  • The basics of computer science and object oriented programming in HTML and CSS,
  • Python programming;
  • Product management using agile management principles
  • Improving your profile for job search attractiveness

The bootcamp will also expose you to a real industry project or agency like fictitious project for you to work on in teams, and use the skills you have learnt.

What makes this training different from other similar ones?

We seek to upskill you into the best software development professional, by exposing you to real industry practices and projects. Our process is tough, but worth it. Our bootcamp is all about the students success and linking you to the best opportunities in the market. Our focus is on providing the best possible learning experience for anyone that wants to become a software developer.

What else do you have to offer beyond the training?

In this bootcamp, you will have the opportunity to receive job search support from our recruitment partners. What this entails is that you will be supported to improve your resume and receive guidance on taking interviews and communications. You will also have the opportunity to tap into our other trainings for free, these include trainings we have for other startup entrepreneurs not in your program. Please note that this is not a job placement guarantee.

What is the cost?

The bootcamp costs UGX 400,000 per month. Your schedule will be three (3) months, making it UGX 1,200,000 for 3 months. However, you are free to cancel anytime. Your money will be given back to you according to our refunds policy.

What are the boot camp timelines?

The application deadline is 7th December 2017. You will hear back from us on your application by 8th December 2017. If successful, the training will happen from 11th of December 2017 to the 13th of April 2018.

Can I have a payment plan for the program?

Yes, you can have a payment plan for the boot camp. However, on confirmation of your entry into the boot camp, you will be required to pay registration fees worth one month of the boot camp duration within three days of admission. In this case, you will be required to pay UGX 400,000 to secure your spot. This amount will be credited towards your total program fees.

We understand that you might not be able to pay the full amount of UGX 1,200,000 at the beginning of the program. You can distribute your follow-on payments to happen 3 days before the start of the next month. However, each month’s fees must always be paid in full before the start of the month. The fees include access to all boot camp materials, with the exception of a laptop. Each student must have their own laptop. Failure to make the payments can result in a late fee of UGX 100,000 per month unless other arrangements have been made with our finance associate.

What is the fees refund policy?

You can cancel your admission anytime between the time of signing your offer letter and before start of the bootcamp by sending your request to accounts@outbox.co.ug. Upon cancellation, we shall return any money you have paid to you within 30 working days, less the registration fees.

Attendance policy

We value your time, our time, and the time of other participants in the boot camp. Therefore, it is important that you know about attendance requirements at the boot camp.

You are required to be at the training facility by 6.00pm until 8.30pm. Please be on time and stay throughout the duration of the session.

Your assessment will not only be based on the scores in the tests but also on your attendance to the program. To qualify for a certificate of completion, you must have no more than three approved absences and no more than one unapproved absence. An approved absence is one where an instructor is notified before missing class because of a valid reason. This can include illness, death or birth of an immediate family member, or as determined by the instructor. An unapproved absence is one where you do not give the instructor notice, and it is for a reason not considered valid.

Do I receive a certificate at the end of the boot camp?

Please note that we shall give you only a certificate of completion for the program. No Institution or organisation is bound to recognise the certificate you receive as we are not an accredited training institution. That should not worry you, we are sure that the skills you acquire will speak for you much more than a piece of paper. Therefore, become good at what you do.
