About the Event

Open source software is software whose original source code is made freely available and may be redistributed and modified. Most of you use open source software 80%of time and the thing is it only gets better if we contribute to it.

Join us on Friday 9th February 2018 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm as we discus Open source. Register here!

What shall we cover?

In this talk I will describe what open source is and its ecosystem, how to get involved in open source along with what paid opportunities you can participate in. We will solve a real bug on one of the opensource projects and submit a patch during the session. May the demo gods be with us.

Who should attend?

This talk cuts across beginner to advanced developers that want to learn how to get started contributing to open source. This event is for Rails girls kampala but gentlemen are welcome.

Outcomes

The outcome of this talk is you will know how to get started submitting your first patch to an open source project and get to know what opportunities you can engage in while contributing. Pre-requisites

The participants do not need to have any knowledge to opensource. They should have some knowledge on using source control with git and have a github.com account. The basics on git shouldn't be a hard rule as I will try to bring some basic git concepts home.
