Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), is a body that regulates the communications and broadcasting sector in Uganda has sponsored Pivot East 2013. Uganda Communications Commission has played a major role in spurring the growth of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in Uganda. Recently, UCC concluded receiving entries for the ACIA awards, a challenge that recognises and rewards innovation in ICT.
For the first time, the competition is being held in Uganda. Uganda Communications Commission acknowledges the cause put forward by Pivot East and has come on board as a silver sponsor for Pivot East 2013.
MTN Uganda, the leading telecommunications company in Uganda, has also come on board as the official communications partner for Pivot East this year. It has been greatly involved in supporting innovation in ICT with previous initiatives including sponsoring Garage48 Kampala and Startup weekend Kampala.
Outbox is co-organizing Pivot East 2013 Kampala with Mlab East Africa
Pivot East is East Africa's Premium mobile start-ups competition and conference which will be held on 25th- 26th June at Sheraton Hotel, Kampala Uganda.
The key objective of Pivot East is "to facilitate discovery of the next wave of high potential mobile start-ups". The main difference between the 2013 competition and the previous years' is its focus on start-ups becoming sustainable enterprises as opposed to merely showcasing mobile applications and their mobile developers. This is also in line with another key objective of Pivot East 2013.
The competition has five categories namely: mobile finance, mobile society, mobile utility, mobile entertainment and mobile enterprise.
