Seedstars World Kampala competition Winners

Remit.Ug won the regional round of Seedstars World, a global startup competition for emerging markets and fast-growing startup scenes in 2014.


Kampala, 27th June, 2014:

14 startups competed during the regional event, which was hosted during the afternoon of the 27th of June, at Outbox Hub.

The top 3 winning startups comprised 1st place winner Remit.Ug, an online money transfer startup, 2nd place winner Ensibuuko, our resident start-up which enables farmers to have mobile access to micro-credits, and Inforex, which lets you find the best forex deals in your area.

Following this regional win, Remit.Ug will be going to Geneva in February, as part of the Seedstars World Final Event.

Stone Atwine, Remit.Ug’s CEO stated: “Remittance startups don’t have it easy in Uganda, due to the stark competition. However, today Remit.Ug proved that we can succeed and we can’t wait for Switzerland to prove it again.”

Seedstars World made its debut in Uganda and partnered with Outbox Hub and Google for Entrepreneurs. 

Richard Zulu, Co-Founder and Lead of the Outbox said of the event: “We’re very happy to have partnered with Seedstars World and look forward to many more events with SSW. This partnership helps Ugandan startups reach out to an international audience and spread the word about Kampala’s ecosystem globally.”


FinAfrica’s Francesca Oliva, Ham Namakajjo from FEZAH, Samuel Collin Ssenyimba, investment manager for LGT Venture Philanthropy, Made By Owner Helen Kokk, and Seedstars World Scout Nellie Horn rounded out the jury.

The event brought together over 70 people including start-up founders, journalists and students to witness and learn from the competition.
