A Ugandan team comprised of representatives from the Ministry of ICT, Uganda Communications Commission, Members of the Parliamentary ICT Committee, and innovators from Outbox, Grameen Foundation, UNICEF, CDFU (Communication for Development Foundation) and Jinja College represented Uganda at the recently concluded ITU telecom world conference in Bangkok from 19th to 22nd November 2013.The event had a number of sessions that included forums, exhibitors and networking.Uganda, with support from the Uganda Communications Commission exhibited a number of Government and Private initiatives within Uganda on the showfloor which included technologies and applications, product demonstrations, regional investment opportunities and ICT projects.The Ministry of ICT, Hon. John Nasasira participated in the forum discussion "Lions go Digital - The Economic impact of the internet on the African Continent" as a panelist. The session looked at the successes and opportunities for growth, as well as maturity of the internet ecosystem. More to that, it looked at the roles that different stakeholders can play in growing the impact of the internet in Africa.Uganda also had representation on the ITU Young Innovators program where Brenda Katwesigye, was one of the finalists chosen to pitch her solution to stand a chance to win USD 10000.Her solution, M-Tambula, is providing the elderly access to public services using Interactive Voice response on their mobile phonesM-Tambula is one of the final 10 applications that pitched at ITU young innovators.ITU telecom world 2013 was a great event however, we came to realise that it is a great platform to showcase one's products and build the needed connections.
