Nigeria invests $1 Billion in New ICT Incubation Centers

The Nigerian Government has provided $1 Billion (2.5 Trillion UGx) for the construction of incubation centers all over the country to encourage growth in their local software content. The Minister of Communications Technology, Omobola Johnson, said the objective was to create 25 successful Information Communication Technology (ICT) firms by 2015. The focus will be on software, mobile apps development, ICT entrepreneurship and innovation, to further expand Nigeria's multibillion software industry.

In the Ugandan arena, the launch of the Uganda Vision 2040 brings hope to the ICT community since one of Government's strategies is to front-load investments in infrastructure targeting areas of maximal opportunities, with focus on oil, energy, transport and ICT. Incubation centers like Outbox are hopeful that its activities will be subsidised so that it further supports the brilliant minds that want to turn their mobile and web innovations into sustainable businesses.
