9 Ugandan Finalists for Pivot East 2013

The full list of the 25 finalists that will pitch their mobile applications at the Pivot East competition in Kampala is out. The conference will be held at Sherato Hotel, Kampala Uganda on the 25th- 26th June 2013. There are five categories namely: mobile finance, mobile utility, mobile society, mobile enterprise and mobile entertainment. 

Uganda has 9 finalists in the competition this year in the various categories:

MOBILE UTILITIES CATEGORY

1. TrueDine: This a restaurant reccomendation and reservation app that helps you discover restaurants, explore menus and make instant table reservations.

2. The Diet Assistant Ltd: Its a mobile diet solution that recommends healthy and affordable meals composed of locally available and accessible foods. 

MOBILE ENTERTAINMENT CATEGORY

3.Kola Studios is presenting Matatu, a two-player card game based on the popular Ugandan game that uses a pack of cards. The game can be played on Mobile (Android) and on Facebook. Its located at Outbox, currently having 2000 active players with over 20,000 games played daily. 

MOBILE SOCIETY CATEGORY

4. Code Vision is presenting BrainShare, a Windows8 mobile and web app that enables students to easily access academic content like past papers, simplifies notes, coursework solutions and sample tests. It caters to Primary, O'level, A'level and University students.

MOBILE ENTERPRISE CATEGORY

5. SchoolMaster Solutions: Their flagship product is Package for School Management (PSM), which is an information portal for parents and school administrators for data storage and information management. it captures information about students and staff, academic results, library operations and other facilities. Their current clients include famous Ugandan schools like Mt. St. Mary's College Namagunga, Uganda Martyrs S.S.S Namugongo and Namilyango College. 

6. Binary Logic: This group is presenting Meka, a web and mobile service designed to help buyers quickly find information about costs, avilabilty and location of items they are interested in. They offer capabilty to order online and GPS direction to the store. 

MOBILE FINANCE CATEGORY

7. Inforex Africa: inforex is a platform enabling forex trading and communication between Forex Bureaus and offers current Forex information to the public. Forex Bureaus  are able to view eachother's forex rates, buy and sell foreign currencies amongst each other easily. 

8. M-Duka Ltd: This a virtual products app that enables users to pay for airtime, internet, Pay-tv and tickets using their mobile phones. 

9. Intel World LTD:  A solution that integrates into major payments providers to enables businesses to transact online , using feature phones (USSD and SMS) and offline using POS. 

On the waiting list are two Ugandan teams, Sharetime Ltd in the mobile finance category and Patch-it in the mobile society category. 

Sharetime Ltd: This app enables cross network use of airtime thus enabling easier access to voice/data services

Patch-it: Is a mobile app in form of a game that makes student revision easier and effective by repeatedly setting random test questions.
